AN EXAMINATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TRAINING PROGRAM PARTICIPATION IN CHANGING CORRECTION OFFICERS' ATTITUDES AND ROLE CONCEPTS.
Abstract
THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY CORRECTIONS OFFICERS PARTICIPATING IN A TRAINING PROGRAM WERE ASKED TO INDICATE HOW THEY WOULD RESPOND TO A SERIES OF HYPOTHETICAL SITUATIONS. AFTER SEVERAL DISCUSSION SESSIONS, THEY WERE AGAIN ASKED TO INDICATE THEIR RESPONSE. IN THE ORIGINAL TEST, A MAJORITY OF OFFICERS CHOSE 'NON-CONSTRUCTIVE' RESPONSES IN FOUR OF NINE SITUATIONS. IN THE RETEST, A MAJORITY CHOSE NONCONSTRUCTIVE RESPONSES IN ONLY ONE SITUATION ON EVALUATION FORMS. THE OFFICERS CLASSIFIED GROUP DISCUSSION AS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL CATEGORY OF LEARNING AND LECTURE CLASSES AS THE LEAST.
