CLASSIFICATION OF ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE PRISON WHICH NEED IMPROVEMENT, IN THE AREAS OF INMATE REHABILITATION AND ORGANIZATIONAL EFFICIENCY.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR CATEGORIZES THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CHANGE WHICH TAKE PLACE IN PRISONS - CHANGES IN THE OFFENDER, INTERNALLY INDUCED CHANGES IN OPERATION, AND EXTERNALLY INDUCED CHANGES WHICH RESULT FROM THE DECISIONS OF OTHER SOCIOECONOMIC INSTITUTIONS. STRUCTURAL DEFICIENCIES IN THE PRISON SYSTEM WHICH IMPEDE CHANGE ARE ANALYZED. THESE ARE CONFLICTING VALUE SYSTEMS, GOAL CONFUSION, INADEQUATE INFORMATION FOR POLICY CHOICES, AND INVERTED DECISION MAKING PRACTICES. BIBLIOGRAPHY.
