THE PROBATION AND THE CORRECTION PROCESS WITH SPECIFIC STRESS PUBLIC RELATIONS, THE OFFENDER AS A MANPOWER RESOURCE, AND INNOVATIONS FOR TREATMENT OF DELINQUENTS.
Abstract
THESE PAPERS REFLECT THE RAPID CHANGE BEING FACED BY PROBATION DEPARTMENTS AND RELATED CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. THE PROFESSIONAL TRENDS IN PROBATION INDICATE THAT CAREFUL ATTENTION IS BEING PAID TO PROCEDURAL REGULARITY, DUE PROCESS, AND THE ARTICULATION OF CRITERIA AHEAD OF TIME. ONE ARTICLE DISCUSSES THE MOVEMENT TO WARD RECOGNITION OF A LEGAL RIGHT TO PROBATION. IN ADDITION THE ROLE OF THE POLICE IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF OFFENDER PARTICIPATION AS A WAY TO MEET THE NEEDS FOR NEW MANPOWER ARE CONSIDERED.
