SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM OPTIONS ARE DESCRIBED FOR THE RENOVATION OF AUBURN-STYLE CELLHOUSES.
Abstract
WHILE IN NO WAY ADVOCATING THE CONTINUED USE OF THE OUT OF DATE AND DETERIORATED CELLHOUSES, PRACTICALITY DICTATES THAT IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME FOR TOTAL REPLACEMENT TO BE EFFECTED. THE SHORT-TERM OPTION CAN REDUCE THE 320-INMATE RESIDENT UNIT TO EIGHT SMALLER UNITS HOUSING 40 OR 20 INMATES. LONG-TERM OPTIONS REQUIRE MORE CONSTRUCTION, SUCH AS THE REMOVAL OF INTERIOR PARTITIONS OR THE CREATION OF AN ENVELOPING STRUCTURE. ROUGH COST ESTIMATES ARE SUPPLIED.
