THE PROTOTYPE DESIGN REQUIREMENT DOCUMENT IS PRESENTED FOR THE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION COMPONENT OF THE CALIFORNIA CORRECTIONS DECISION INFORMATION SYSTEM.
Abstract
FOLLOWING AN OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION OF CALIFORNIA'S OFFENDER BASED INFORMATION SYSTEM, DESIGN REQUIREMENTS ARE PRESENTED FOR THE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION COMPONENT OF THE OFFENDER PROGRAM REPORTING SUBSYSTEMS. CURRENTLY, NO STRUCTURED METHOD EXISTS FOR COLLECTING DATA ON OFFENDERS APPROVED FOR, ENROLLED IN, OR EXITING FROM A VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM OR COURSE. THE PROPOSED PROJECT WILL BE AN ON-LINE SYSTEM WHICH WILL FOLLOW INDIVIDUALS FROM THE TIME OF APPROVAL TO EXIT FROM THE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM OR COURSE. BASIC HISTORICAL INFORMATION ABOUT PARTICIPATION AND ACHIEVEMENT WILL BE GATHERED AND STORED FOR USE BY STAFF TO AID IN PLACEMENT AND TRANSFER OF OFFENDERS IN THE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM; MONITORING OF OFFENDER PROGRESS IN THE PROGRAM OR COURSE; PAROLE PLANNING; FOLLOWUP OF FORMER PARTICIPANTS; AND BUDGETING, PLANNING AND EVALUATION OF THE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAM. OUTPUT REPORTS OF THE SYSTEM WILL BE OFFENDER SPECIFIC, PROGRAM OR COURSE SPECIFIC, AND INCLUDE SUMMARY REPORTS. DETAILS OF THE COMPONENT ARE DESCRIBED. APPENDED ARE THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS' ORGANIZATION OF ITS SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT PROCESS AND THE DESIGN REQUIREMENT OUTLINE WHICH WAS THE BASIC GUIDE FOR THE PROTOTYPE DOCUMENT CONTAINED IN THE REPORT AND USED FOR OTHER DESIGN DOCUMENTS PREPARED IN DEVELOPING THE INFORMATION SYSTEM.
