CHILD ABUSE IS THE SUBJECT OF THIS DISPOSITIONAL CASE CONFERENCE INVOLVING PARENTS, A PEDIATRICIAN, A SOCIAL WORKER, A PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE, A POLICE OFFICER, AND A REPRESENTATIVE OF JUVENILE COURT.
Abstract
THE DISCUSSION OF EACH PARTICIPANT ILLUSTRATES HOW PARENTAL BACKGROUND, ECONOMIC DIFFICULTIES, AND MARITAL PROBLEMS (PARTICULARLY THE MOTHER'S FEELINGS OF ISOLATION AND DEPRESSION) CAN RESULT IN CHILD ABUSE. THE ROLE OF THE JUVENILE COURT IN DECIDING THE FUTURE OF AN ABUSED CHILD IS DESCRIBED AS WELL AS THE PROCEDURES OF POLICE AND JUVENILE COURT INVESTIGATIONS IN CHILD ABUSE CASES. AMONG THE TREATMENT OPTIONS DISCUSSED ARE EMERGENCY FOSTER CARE FOR THE ABUSED CHILD, THERAPY FOR THE PARENTS, AND PARTICIPATION BY THE MOTHER IN A PARENT-CHILD COOOPERATIVE. (AOP)
