SYSTEM AND PILOT TEST DESCRIPTION OF AN AUTOMATED ELECTRONIC CARGO SECURITY SYSTEM THAT REPORTS POTENTIAL UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO CARGO AND VEHICLE LOCATIONS TO A DISPATCHER FOR FURTHER ACTION.
Abstract
THE SYSTEM CONCEPT IS THAT OF USING TRUCK-INSTALLED SENSORS TO MONITOR THE ACTIVITIES OCCURRING AT THE CARGO TRUCK, AND REPORTING THIS INFORMATION, TOGETHER WITH THE LOCATION OF THE VEHICLE, TO THE FLEET DISPATCHER AT THE FREIGHT DEPOT VIA THE LAND MOBILE RADIO COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT EMPLOYED FOR DISPATCH PURPOSES. THIS VOLUME GIVES A DETAILED DISCUSSION OF THE OVERALL SYSTEM AS WELL AS A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EACH OF THE SUBSYSTEMS. THE PILOT TEST IS DESCRIBED AND THE RESULTS ARE ANALYZED. APPENDICES ARE INCLUDED TO SUPPORT THE DESCRIPTIONS; E.G., BY EXPLAINING IN DETAIL THE ACCURACY DATA REDUCTION. FOR THE TECHNICAL SUMMARY AND THE SUPPORTING DESIGN AND FIELD DATA SEE NCJ-35092 AND 35094. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
