TECHNICAL SUMMARY OF THE DEVELOPMENT AND PILOT TEST OF AN AUTOMATED ELECTRONIC CARGO SECURITY SYSTEM TO REPORT POTENTIAL UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO CARGO AND VEHICLE LOCATION TO A DISPATCHING FOR FURTHER ACTION.
Abstract
THE SYSTEM CONCEPT IS THAT OF USING TRUCK-INSTALLED SENSORS TO MONITOR THE ACTIVITIES OCCURRING AT THE CARGO TRUCK, AND REPORTING THIS INFORMATION, TOGETHER WITH THE LOCATION OF THE VEHICLE, TO THE FLEET DISPATCHER AT THE FREIGHT DEPOT VIA THE LAND MOBILE RADIO COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT EMPLOYED FOR DISPATCH PURPOSES. THIS VOLUME GIVES A CONCISE DESCRIPTION OF THE OVERALL SYSTEM AND SOFTWARE AS WELL AS AN OVERVIEW OF THE TECHNICAL AND HUMAN FACTORS FINDINGS OF THE PILOT TEST WHICH ARE TRANSLATED INTO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE SUBSEQUENT OPERATIONAL FIELD TEST AND EVALUATION. FOR THE SYSTEM AND PILOT TEST DESCRIPTION, AND THE SUPPORTING DESIGN AND FIELD DATA, SEE NCJ-35093 AND 35094. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
