SUGGESTIONS FOR UPGRADING ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT OF A FLEXIBLE SET OF CAREER ALTERNATIVES WITHIN MUNICIPAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS.
Abstract
WHEN NEW EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS ARE ESTABLISHED, TWO YEARS OF COLLEGE SHOULD BE A MINIMUM REQUISITE FOR ENTRY ONTO THE FORCE. A BACHELOR'S DEGREE WOULD BE NECESSARY AFTER AN ADJUSTMENT PERIOD. FURTHER EDUCATION WOULD BE NEEDED FOR HIGHER POSITIONS. OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROMOTION AND RAISES FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE SHOULD BE INCREASED FOR OFFICERS WHO WISH TO CONTINUE WORKING IN THE FIELD.
