This book describes actual events and responses of various university department personnel who approached and handled violent tragedies on campus.
Abstract
The first part of the book consists of interviews with university administrators who guided institutional responses to violent behavior on campus. Violent incidents involved date rape, murder, rape, suicide, serial murder, and assault by an athlete. The second part of the book presents responses of two universities to the natural disaster of Hurricane Andrew. The final part of the book summarizes the extent of violence on university campuses and university responses and includes suggestions for others and useful checklists. The value of crisis response committees is assessed, and procedures to guide preparation for a crisis are described. Case studies show some universities are better prepared for emergency situations than others. References
