Campus police officers at Baylor University (Waco, Tex.) are routinely dealing with every facet of law enforcement within their jurisdiction, in cooperation with the Waco Police Department.
Abstract
This has occurred under a 1987 Texas law which authorizes the Baylor Police to be classified as adjunct Waco police officers. The Baylor police continue to provide the usual services on campus. Additionally, because of their expanded authority they may also respond up to 1 mile off campus in cases of traffic enforcement and incidents classified as crises or life-threatening. Baylor officers are trained at the Waco Police Academy. The blending of two agencies in one jurisdiction with two distinctive missions requires an emphasis on communications. The cooperative relationship is manifested in an exchange of statistical data between crime prevention units, joint undercover narcotics operations, access to local records and computer information, joint training seminars, and socializing among officers.
