The California Department of Corrections prepared a study examining the appropriateness of a site in East Riverside County for a proposed low- to medium-security level prison of 2,000 beds.
Abstract
After examining six sites for a prison system now 170-percent above its inmate capacity, 200 acres 17 miles west of Blythe were selected for an environmental study. The land is nearly level, with no major drainage channels and no flooding hazards. No natural gas, electricity, or telephone service will be required especially for the prison. A wastewater treatment plant and a cogeneration plant to conserve energy are planned. The cost of building the prison is estimated at $129 million in 1988 dollars. Chapter references, 11 figures and 11 tables.
