Individual sections cover reporting requirements for suspected sexual assault and child abuse; requirements for consent for examination, treatment, and evidence collection; and the financial responsibility for examination, treatment, and testing. Other sections explain crime victim compensation and victim assistance programs, the medical examination of the individual; the labeling and preservation of evidence; the chain of custody of evidence; the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases; and followup care. Further sections discuss the handling of specific types of evidence, including clothing, fingernail scrapings, body fluids, bite marks and bruises, hair, and other materials.
