A DETAILED NARRATIVE REPORT PROVIDING A BACKGROUND OF THE GROUP HOMES PROJECT, A REVIEW OF DEVELOPMENTS WITHIN EACH GROUP HOME, AND A DISCUSSION OF DEVELOPMENT AND COORDINATION OF GROUP HOMES.
Abstract
THIS REPORT COVERS THE PERIOD FROM JULY 1, 1967 THROUGH JUNE 30, 1968. THE DIFFERENTIAL TREATMENT ENVIRONMENTS FOR DELINQUENTS (DTED) PROGRAM, ALTHOUGH SEPARATELY FUNDED, IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE COMMUNITY TREATMENT PROJECT (CTP). THE RESEARCH GOALS OF THE DTED WERE TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING FIVE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GROUP HOMES, TO DEVELOP A TAXONOMY OF GROUP HOME ENVIRONMENTS DESCRIBING THE IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THE FIVE ENVIRONMENTS, AND TO EVALUATE THE IMPACT OF THE GROUP HOME EXPERIENCE ON YOUTH. EACH TYPE OF HOME WAS TO REPRESENT AN ENVIRONMENT SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT NEEDS OF PARTICULAR TYPES OF DELINQUENT YOUTHS. THIS REPORT CONTAINS A DISCUSSION OF THE MANAGEMENT OF THE PROJECT AND THE HOMES, A REVIEW OF THE SELECTION OF GROUP HOME PARENTS, AND A DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, AS WELL AS A CHRONOLOGY OF MAJOR PROJECT DEVELOPMENTS. THE FIVE GROUP HOME TYPES WERE A PROTECTIVE HOME, A CONTAINMENT HOME, A BOARDING HOME, A TEMPORARY COMMUNITY CARE HOME, AND AN INDIVIDUALIZED HOME. A GIRLS' GROUP HOME WAS PLANNED, AND EFFORTS TO ESTABLISH A TEMPORARY RESTRICTION HOME WERE ABANDONED. A DISCUSSION OF RESEARCH GOALS AND EMERGING ISSUES IS PROVIDED. INCLUDED IN THE APPENDIXES ARE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE GROUP HOMES AND PLACEMENT PATTERNS FOR EACH HOME.
