SURVEY OF THE POST RELEASE JOB EXPERIENCE OF VOCATIONAL TRAINEES WHO HAD AT LEAST 200 HOURS OF TRAINING WITH GRADES OF C OR BETTER.
Abstract
COMPLEXITIES OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS HAVE LIMITED THEIR EFFECTIVENESS. A NUMBER OF MATTERS RELATING TO THE SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT OF INMATES FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS ARE DESCRIBED. ATTEMPTS ARE MADE TO DRAW FROM THE LITERATURE NOTIONS ABOUT THE MOTIVATIONS OF INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE GENERALIZABLE TO THAT SEGMENT THAT INHABITS PRISONS. DATA IS GATHERED IN INTERVIEWS OF INMATE TRAINEES AFTER THEY HAD EXPERIENCED SOME PERIOD OF TIME IN THE COMMUNITY AND IN THE JOB MARKET, IN INTERVIEWS OF EMPLOYERS WHO HAVE HIRED PAROLEES IN THE TRADES IN WHICH THEY WERE TRAINED.
