THIS BOOK PRESENTS A STATISTICAL SUMMARY OF MEN AND WOMEN CIVILLY COMMITTED TO THE CALIFORNIA REHABILITATION CENTER (CRC) PROGRAM DURING 1976 AS WELL AS COMPARISONS WITH PREVIOUS YEARS' DATA.
Abstract
THE REPORT WAS PREPARED BY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS. CRC POPULATION TOTALED 2,445 ON DECEMBER 31, 1976, COMPARED TO 2,138 AT THE END OF 1975. THE POPULATION AT THE END OF 1976 INCLUDED 2,034 MEN AND 411 WOMEN. THERE WERE 11.4 ADDICTS IN CRC PER 100,000 POPULATION. DURING 1976, 1,176 MEN AND 401 WOMEN ADDICTS WERE NEWLY ADMITTED FROM COURT. OF THE MEN, 94.9 PERCENT WERE CHARGED WITH A FELONY. AT THE END OF 1976, FELONY CHARGES WERE PENDING AGAINST 95.3 PERCENT OF THE MEN AND 83.9 PERCENT OF THE WOMEN. OF THE CIVIL ADDICTS WITH CRIMINAL CHARGES PENDING, 41.1 PERCENT OF THE MEN AND 46.9 PERCENT OF THE WOMEN HAD BEEN CONVICTED OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE OR MARIJUANA OFFENSES. A TOTAL OF 3,932 MEN AND 725 WOMEN WERE RELEASED FROM THE INSTITUTION DURING THE YEAR. THE CIVILIAN NARCOTIC ADDICT POPULATION TOTALED 4,939 PERSONS AT THE END OF 1976 AND INCLUDED 4,135 MEN AND 804 WOMEN. FELONY CHARGES WERE PENDING AGAINST 93.9 PERCENT OF THESE MEN AND 83.3 PERCENT OF THESE WOMEN.
