Abstract
The abstracts reflect the views of the authors and editors, highlight each document's content, and are organized into overlapping broad topic areas. Materials on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse prevention research and evaluation highlight current prevention research findings that are the basis for effective programming. Publications on prevention strategies for youth, families, and communities provide guidelines, instructions, and suggestions for implementing and evaluating community-based, substance-abuse prevention programs. Materials on community organizing strategies focus on new and better ways for individuals and neighborhoods to collaborate to improve the conditions in their communities and to enable existing systems to facilitate effective substance-abuse prevention strategies. Listings on family support, parenting, and parent leadership focus on how to provide social and emotional support to parents, improve parenting skills, and encourage parental initiative. Materials on the effects and treatment of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug problems provide information for practitioners and researchers who want to know more about the nature and extent of today's alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse crisis and how to intervene effectively. All materials were published within the past 10 years and are available from a publisher, distributor, or library. Author/title and subject indexes
