Abstract
Healthy families know strength does not mean physical power or control over another person; strength comes from cooperating, communicating, accepting, and supporting each other. The building blocks to strengthen families are communication, support, equal value, trust, respect, humor, time together, rituals and traditions, affirmations, creative problem-solving, clear values and rules, flexibility, balance of power, nonviolent discipline, nurturing, healthy sexuality, and outside help. All these skills are essential to help families find alternatives to violence. Credits and resources listed.
