DESIGNS FOR SIMPLE ELECTRONIC ALARM AND WARNING SYSTEMS ARE PRESENTED WITH PARTICULAR APPLICATION TO HOMES AND CARS.
Abstract
THE USE OF ELECTRONIC ALARM SYSTEMS, EVEN THOSE WHICH USE RELATIVELY SIMPLE CIRCUITS, AND WHICH MAY BE CONSTRUCTED BY THE AVERAGE HOMEOWNER CAN BE EFFECTIVE IN THE PREVENTION OF ACCIDENTS AND CRIMES. HOUSEHOLD SAFETY MAY BE PRACTICALLY AND INEXPENSIVELY MAINTAINED THROUGH THE USE OF SUCH ITEMS AS AN ELECTRIC EYE AND A PORTABLE SECURITY ALARM. SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS OF THESE DEVICES ARE PROVIDED, AND ARE SUPPLEMENTED WITH DESCRIPTIONS OF THE TECHNIQUES FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND USE OF THE SYSTEMS. A LIST OF THE REQUIRED PARTS FOR THE BUILDING OF THESE DEVICES IS ALSO PROVIDED. ADDITIONAL PROJECTS DESCRIBED INCLUDE AN ALARM SYSTEM FOR MEDICINE CABINETS OR GUN LOCKERS, AND A SAFETY FLASHER SYSTEM FOR DISABLED CARS THAT IS ACTIVATED BY THE HEADLIGHTS OF PASSING VEHICLES. BECAUSE A COMPLETE BURGLAR ALARM SYSTEM MIGHT BE PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE, A SIMPLE SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED WHICH UTILIZES THE DOORBELL AND WIRING FACILITIES OF THE AVERAGE HOUSE. THIS SYSTEM WOULD ONLY PROTECT ONE DOOR OR WINDOW, BUT CAN BE EASILY MODIFIED TO PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR AN ENTIRE HOUSE. AN INEXPENSIVE WATER DETECTION ALARM CAN PREVENT DAMAGE TO HOMES AND BOATS BY PROVIDING FOR THE EARLY DETECTION OF LEAKAGE. A DELAY SHUTOFF DEVICE IS ALSO PRESENTED WHICH KEEPS A CAR'S HEADLIGHTS ON UNTIL THE CAR OWNER IS INSIDE HIS OR HER HOUSE. (TWK)
