ACTIVITIES OF THE HOME OFFICE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT BRANCH AND THE HOME OFFICE RESEARCH UNIT, INCLUDING OBSERVATIONS AND COMPARISON WITH AMERICAN TRENDS.
Abstract
THE POLICE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT BRANCH, (PRDB) CONCERNED WITH ALL MATTERS RELATED TO POLICE SERVICE, HAS CONDUCTED STUDIES, WITH MODERATE EXPENDITURE, ON MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS, METHODS OF CRIME DETECTION, POLICE EQUIPMENT, AND AUTOMATED INFORMATION SYSTEMS. THE BRANCH HAS PLAYED A ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF REGIONAL CRIME SQUADS, POLICE DEPARTMENT CONSOLIDATION, AND UNIT BEAT POLICING, A SYSTEM IN WHICH RESIDENT OFFICERS WITH DEFINED BEATS TEAM UP WITH A 24 HOUR MOBILE PATROL. IN ADDITION TO THE ACTIVITIES OF THE PRDB, THIS ARTICLE TOUCHES ON FORENSIC RESEARCH, AND STUDIES ON THE COURTS, CRIMINOLOGY, HUMAN BEHAVIOR, AND CORRECTIONS RESEARCH CONDUCTED BY THE HOME OFFICE RESEARCH UNIT.
