As mandated under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, as amended by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988, the U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) presents its FY 2014 Annual Report to Congress regarding its mission to reduce violent crime, restore public safety in communities, and reform the nation's criminal justice system through the development and implementation of policy, services, and sound grant management.
Abstract
The major sections of this annual report focus on BJA policies and activities in FY 2014 related to improving the criminal justice system, fighting crime through researcher-practitioner partnerships, encouraging innovation, reducing violence in neighborhoods, building community trust, supporting law enforcement officer safety and wellness, securing the constitutional right to counsel, reducing recidivism, combating substance abuse/mental health disorders, prevening violence against incarcerated individuals, sharing justice information, delivering training and technical assistance, and supporting tribal justice. Two charts show FY 2014 appropriations for BJA-administered programs and FY 2014 funding by BJA program areas. 10 exhibits
