BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THE SCOPE OF RESEARCH CONDUCTED BY THE BIOLOGY DIVISION OF THE BRITISH HOME OFFICE CENTRAL RESEARCH ESTABLISHMENT (CRE) TO AID IN SCIENTIFIC CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS.
Abstract
LIMITATIONS IMPOSED ON THE WORK OF THE FORENSIC BIOLOGIST BY THE NATURE OF COMPARATIVE BIOLOGY ARE DESCRIBED. RESEARCH TO OVERCOME THESE LIMITATIONS BY IMPROVING THE TRADITIONAL MEANS OF GROUPING BLOOD, SALIVA, AND SEMEN TO EXPAND THE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO POLICE BEFORE A SUSPECT IS APPREHENDED IS REVIEWED. PARTICULAR ATTENTION IS PAID TO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONTAINED IN BLOODSTAINS WHICH COULD BE AVAILABLE FOR INVESTIGATION THROUGH ANTIBODY PROFILING.
