This book describes the unique role of group therapy in the recovery of women survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
Abstract
Part One describes childhood sexual abuse, with special attention to the dysfunctional family; sexual abuse (who, what, where, when); a survivor’s story; boundaries; addictions; stress and post-traumatic stress disorder; lifetime effects of physical abuse; guilt; positive emotional growth; becoming a person; and a higher power. Part Two is for women survivors in group therapy, including discussion of the benefits of the group as a family of friends. It also includes issues important to clients, such as confidentiality, and summarizes the six stages of development in therapy. Part Three, for therapists, examines behavioral cognitive therapy for adult women molested as children. Appendix, references, resources
