THIS BOOKLET DISCUSSES APPLICATION OF THE BASIC OBSCIS (OFFENDER-BASED STATE CORRECTIONS INFORMATION SYSTEMS) SOFTWARE TO A MINICOMPUTER ENVIRONMENT.
Abstract
INFORMATION PRESENTED IS BASED ON THE EXPERIENCE GAINED FROM INSTALLING BASIC OBSCIS ON AN IBM SYSTEM/34 IN KANSAS AND ON A DATA GENERAL NOVA 3/D AT SEARCH GROUP, INC. THE MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS REQUIRED OF COMPUTER HARDWARE SYSTEMS FOR OPERATING BASIC OBSCIS ARE PRESENTED, INCLUDING THE LANGUAGE, THE MEMORY CAPACITY, THE FACILITIES, THE DISK STORAGE CAPACITY, AND THE OUTPUT MECHANISMS AND PRINTERS REQUIRED FOR THE SYSTEM. THREE FUNDAMENTAL MINICOMPUTER CONFIGURATIONS ARE THEN BRIEFLY DESCRIBED AS THEY APPLY TO THE BASIC OBSCIS SOFTWARE PACKAGE--THE DEDICATED MINICOMPUTER SYSTEM WITH LOCAL INPUT TERMINALS, THE DEDICATED SYSTEM WITH MINICOMPUTERS AT INDIVIDUAL FACILITIES. FLOW CHARTS FURTHER ILLUSTRATE THE USE OF THE THREE CONFIGURATIONS. PHOTOGRAPHS AND MENTION OF OTHER RESOURCES ARE PROVIDED. SEE NCJ 66513-14.
