Seven sessions pertain to disputes. Instructor material on the introduction to dispute calls encompasses the nature of disputes, the role of a peace officer in a dispute, and general response considerations. "Responding to a Dispute Call" is addressed in the second session. The primary topic discussed is officer safety considerations, which encompasses consideration of all available information, the use of proper patrol procedures during arrival and approach, a safe entry into the premises, and initial contact with the disputants. The session on techniques for handling disputes involves the following topics: maintaining a professional demeanor, establishing rapport with the disputants, problem identification, and mediation. Other sessions focus on officer responses to particular types of disputes, namely, family disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, disputes related to repossessions, labor disputes, crowd control definitions, principles of crowd management, crowd control, crowd psychology, principles of riot control, riot control formations, and mutual aid.
