The effects of a specific training program for Juvenile Court Workers in Michigan on the overt and covert behaviors related to interpersonal relationships of juvenile court employees was investigated.
Abstract
The Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior Scales (FIRO-B) were administered to a treatment group of 73 highly experienced juvenile court workers and a control group of 41 detention workers considered similar to the treatment group in career personality types. There were statistically significant changes in 2 of 15 scale scores for the treatment group. Low scoring participants in the treatment group moved upward from "being uncomfortable/moves away from people" and from "selective about associations" with others. The movement indicated by the treatment group's positive shift in scores demonstrates the desired effect for the 5-day training workshops; the inservice training did produce changes in the inclusive behavior of those involved. Inservice programs are recommended for juvenile court workers. 2 tables and 11 references
