THE PROVISIONS OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS GOVERNING BANK SECURITY ARE OUTLINED, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MORE STRINGENT REGULATIONS ON SECURITY MEASURES ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
AMONG THE SECURITY EFFORTS REQUIRED OF BANKS ARE DESIGNATION OF A SECURITY OFFICER; PROVISION OF VAULT ILLUMINATION, TAMPER RESISTANT LOCKS, AND ALARM SYSTEMS; AND A WRITTEN SECURITY PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDES A TESTING SCHEDULE OF INSTALLED DEVICES, CURRENCY MINIMUMS, USE OF BAIT MONEY AT TELLER STATIONS; AND PERIODIC TRAINING OF EMPLOYEES. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF BANKS WERE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE REGULATIONS. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE RAPID INCREASES IN THE NUMBER OF BANK ROBBERIES IN RECENT YEARS, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT SEVERAL SECURITY MEASURES BE MADE MANDATORY AND THAT EFFORTS BE MADE TO SUPERVISE AND ENFORCE THESE REGULATIONS.
