COMPUTERIZED FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM CAPABLE OF SCANNING INKED FINGERPRINT IMPRESSIONS ON A FINGERPRINT CARD AND LOCATING RIDGE ENDINGS AND RIDGE BIFURCATIONS.
Abstract
THE FUNCTIONS INVOLVED IN THIS SYSTEM INCLUDE READING FINGERPRINT CARDS, REGISTERING RESULTING MINUTIAE DATA TO A STANDARD POSITION, CLASSIFYING THE PRINT PATTERN AND MATCHING THE MINUTIAE AGAINST THOSE ON FILE. THE FINDER FINGERPRINT READER INCLUDES A CARD HANDLER, SCANNER, PREPROCESSOR AND A COMPUTER. THE FUNCTION PERFORMED BY EACH OF THESE IS DESCRIBED AND EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN OF THE TECHNIQUES USED TO READ MINUTIAE AND RIDGE CONTOUR DATA. EXAMPLES OF THE READER OUTPUT ARE ILLUSTRATED AND THE USE OF THIS DATA IN A FINGERPRINT MATCHING TECHNIQUE IS EXPLAINED.
