This paper reports on the Justice Department’s audit of how the Women of Nations, Inc., used Victims of Crime Act funds and whether it accounted for those funds in compliance with select award requirements, terms, and conditions; it describes the Office of the Inspector General’s audit approach, objectives, results, conclusions, and recommendations; and includes six appendix documents.

Abstract

This audit report describes the Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG’s) investigation of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs (Minnesota OJP) subaward to Women of Nations, Incorporated (WON), in support of WON’s efforts to provide culturally specific support to all who have experienced trauma and domestic, sexual, and dating violence, and to empower Native American communities to put an end to all forms of violence through education and prevention. The document presents the OIG’s audit approach; audit results, noting program performance and accomplishments, and financial management; and conclusions and recommendations. The document also provides six Appendix documents: Objective, Scope and Methodology; a schedule of dollar-related findings; WON response to the Draft Report; the Minnesota OJP response to the Draft Report; the DOJ OJP response to the Draft Report; and the OIG analysis and summary of required actions for closing the audit report.
