THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE AUBURN BURGLARY/AUTO THEFT REDUCTION PROGRAM AS IT WAS IMPLEMENTED BY THE PROJECT TEAM AND EVALUATES IT IN TERMS OF EFFECTIVENESS IN MEETING ITS FOUR OBJECTIVES.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES WERE TO REDUCE RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES, TO REDUCE COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES, TO INCREASE CLEARANCES OF REPORTED BURGLARIES, AND TO INCREASE CLEARANCES BY ARREST FOR REPORTED BURGLARIES. THESE WERE TO BE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION EDUCATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF DEPARTMENTAL BURGLARY INVESTIGATION PROCEDURES. DATA COLLECTION METHODS ARE DISCUSSED AND, SUBJECT TO CERTAIN UNKNOWN VARIABLES, THE DATA ARE ANALYZED. THE ANALYSIS FOUND THAT THERE WAS A STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN REPORTED RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES AND AN INCREASE IN CLEARANCE AND ARREST RATES FOR BURGLARY AND AUTO THEFT.
