Intended for use mainly by persons who have been arrested or placed in pretrial detention in a remand prison in Sweden, this brochure explains the rights of the accused and the regulations that apply for a person arrested or remanded in custody.
Abstract
Individual sections explain the investigation, how long a person can be held under arrest, the court hearing at which a commital decision is made, restriction of movement and compulsory attendance, the pretrial personal case study, medical opinions, prosecution and trial, the use of public defenders, limitations on the right to associate with others, and how to appeal a decision. Rules and routines that shape daily life in a remand center are also described, including contact with relatives, letters and parcels, telephone, mass media, books, visits from relatives, religious organizations, personal effects and money, work, and study.
