This report presents an overview of the Arkansas court system and its work during the 1994-95 fiscal year.
Abstract
Appeals filed in the Arkansas Supreme Court totaled 548 in 1994-95, a decrease of 3 percent from the previous year but an increase of 6 percent over the last 3 years. The 849 appeals, petitions, and motions filed represented a decrease of 2 percent, but the number of terminations increased by almost 2 percent to 854. A total of 1,141 appeals were filed during 1994-95. In courts of general jurisdiction, the combined filings of criminal, civil, chancery, juvenile, and probate cases increased to an all-time high of 180,680, an increase of 6 percent from the previous year. Arkansas trial courts also terminated 169,679 cases in 1994-95, a record high and an increase from 157,261 terminations in 1993-94. Municipal court filings increased by 9 percent to 798,247, and city court filings increased by 30 percent to 63,059 cases. Figures, photographs, and map
