Abstract
A major accomplishment during fiscal year 1998-99 was the completion of a project initiated more than 2 years ago. The project aimed at resolving potential computer problems associated with the year 2000. All critical system problems associated with Y2K at the ADPS were resolved well in advance of self-imposed deadlines. An achievement of note was police officers' recovery of 3,116 stolen vehicles, an 18.1-percent increase over the previous year. Highway Patrol officers completed an average of 473 motorist assists each day of the year, an increase of nearly 13 percent. Regarding narcotics enforcement activities, officers seized nearly 43,000 pounds of marijuana, slightly more than 6,000 pounds of cocaine, and 435 pounds of methamphetamine. The report details the activities of the Office of the Director, the Operations Division, the Central Operations Bureau, the Northern Operations Bureau, the Southern Operations Bureau, the Agency Support Bureau, and the Criminal Justice Support Bureau. Information is also provided on departmental awards, employee recognition awards, employee retirements, and officer deaths. Data encompass expenses, adjudication of citizen complaints against employees, a critical incident review, employee programs, arrests, citations, warnings, stolen vehicles recovered, drugs seized, persons arrested, court documents served, assets seized, property recovered, liquor enforcement, and criminal investigation research.
