Abstract
THE SELECTION SYSTEMS CONSIDERED ARE GUBERNATORIAL APPOINTMENT, LEGISLATIVE ELECTION, PARTISAN ELECTION, NONPARTISAN ELECTION, AND MERIT SELECTION. A TABLE REPRESENTS THE DISTRIBUTION OF SELECTION SYSTEMS AMONG THE STATES. 'THE MODEL STATE JUDICIAL ARTICLE', THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION, THE ADVISORY COMMISSION ON INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS, AND THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS ARE ALL CITED AS FAVORING THE MERIT SELECTION SYSTEM.
