THIS ARTICLE BRIEFLY DESCRIBES A PROCEDURE FOR MEASURING PAINT COLORS USING THE REFERENCE COLOR SYSTEM PROVIDED IN THE METHUEN HANDBOOK OF COLOR, AND PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF AN EVALUATION OF THE CODING ACCURACY OF THIS METHOD.
Abstract
THE PRIME OBJECTIVE OF A COLOR SYSTEM IN FORENSIC SCIENCE IS THAT IT SHOULD PROVIDE A STANDARD MEANS OF DESCRIBING A COLOR AND COMMUNICATING THIS INFORMATION TO OTHERS. THE METHUEN HANDBOOK OF COLOR USED IN THIS SYSTEM CONSISTS OF 30 DOUBLE PAGES, ON EACH OF WHICH THERE ARE 48 SMALL RECTANGLES OF DIFFERENT COLORS. EACH COLOR IS CLASSIFIED ACCORING TO ITS HUE, TONE, AND INTENSITY. CLASSIFICATION OF COLORS USING THIS MODEL WAS TESTED, AND AN ANALYSIS OF THE ERRORS IN COLOR CLASSIFICATION USING THIS TECHNIQUE WAS MADE. BASED ON THESE TESTS, THE SYSTEM WAS FOUND TO BE PRACTICABLE.
