A SYMPOSIUM TO PROVIDE PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICIALS WITH CURRENT INFORMATION AND AN UNDERSTANDING THAT WOULD ENABLE THEM TO EVALUATE THE POTENTIAL ADVANTAGES OF AVL (AUTOMATIC VEHICLE LOCATER) IN THEIR OPERATIONS.
Abstract
THE SYMPOSIUM REVIEWED THE RECOGNIZED AVL TECHNIQUES AND HOW THESE TECHNOLOGIES COULD BE APPLIED IN VARIOUS MUNICIPAL AND COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS TO ESTABLISH A BACKGROUND IN AVL SYSTEMS FOR THE ATTENDEES. THIS INVOLVED A DISCUSSION OF COMMAND/CONTROL IN POLICE OPERATIONS, THE BASIC TECHNOLOGY USED IN AVL SYSTEMS AND THE POTENTIAL ECONOMIC AND OPERATIONAL ADVANTAGES WHICH AVL CAN CONTRIBUTE. REPRESENTATIVES FROM INDUSTRY PRESENTED DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGICAL APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM - PROXIMITY, TRILATERATION AND DEAD RECKONING. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
