This report describes the organization, caseloads, and accomplishments of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, the Appeals Court, and trial courts during fiscal year 1997.
Abstract
Appeals entered in the Supreme Judicial Court rather than transferred here by the court increased to 69 percent of the net entries, while appeals in criminal cases declined to 34 percent of the cases that the court decided. A total of 2,235 appeals were entered in the Appeals Court, an increase of 5.1 percent over fiscal year 1996 and an increase of almost 50 percent over fiscal year 1992. The report also covers the work of various committees, efforts related to alternative dispute resolution, information technology, management improvement, court capital projects, personnel, juvenile and adult courts, community corrections, and other topics. Figures, tables, and photographs
