COMPARISON OF DELINQUENT BOYS DURING INCARCERATION AND AFTER PLACEMENT IN BOARDING OR GROUP HOMES OR RETURN TO THEIR OWN HOMES.
Abstract
IT WAS FOUND THAT BOYS WHO ARE MORE DISTURBED AND, ACCORDING TO PROGNOSTIC TESTS, MORE LIKELY TO GET INTO TROUBLE TEND TO BE PLACED IN GROUP HOMES RATHER THAN BOARDING HOMES. BOYS PLACED IN GROUP HOMES SHOWED GREATER ADJUSTMENT AFTER RELEASE FROM INSTITUTIONS THAN THE TWO OTHER GROUPS. WHILE THE AUTHORS ARE NOT SURE OF THE REASON FOR THIS, THEY SUGGEST THAT BEING AWAY FROM THE HOME ENVIRONMENT IS A POSITIVE REHABILITATIVE FACTOR.
