THIS SUMMARY PRESENTS INFORMATION ON THE CRIME REPORTING SYSTEM IN DALLAS, ON PERSONAL VICTIMIZATION (ASSAULT AND/ OR THEFT), AND ON HOUSEHOLD AND COMMERCIAL VICTIMIZATION (BURGLARY, LARCENY, AND AUTO THEFT).
Abstract
RESULTS INDICATE THAT THE LARGER THE FINANCIAL LOSS OR PERSONAL INJURY INCURRED, THE MORE LIKELY THE CRIME WOULD BE REPORTED. ALSO, MALES WERE VICTIMIZED MORE FREQUENTLY THAN FEMALES AND WHITE MALES WERE THE RECIPIENTS OF MOST OFFENSES COMMITTED BY BOTH BLACK AND WHITE OFFENDERS, ALTHOUGH BLACK AND WHITE FEMALES WERE VICTIMIZED ABOUT EQUALLY. APPROXIMATELY 59.4 PERCENT OF TOTAL PERSONAL VICTIMIZATIONS WERE NOT REPORTED. THE HOUSEHOLD SURVEY INDICATED THAT LARCENY WAS PRIMARILY A PROBLEM AGAINST WHITE HOUSEHOLDS, WHILE BURGLARY AND AUTO THEFT WERE DIRECTED AGAINST BLACK HOUSEHOLDS. REGARDLESS OF REACE, THE HIGHER THE INCOME LEVEL OF THE HOUSEHOLD, THE HIGHER THE VICTIMIZATION RATE. THE COMMERCIAL SRUVEY SHOWED THAT APPROXIMATELY 20 PERCENT OF ALL DALLAS BUSINESSES WERE VICTIMIZED DURING THE REPORTING PERIOD, THE MAJORITY OF THE CRIMES BEING BURGLARIES. A HIGH REPORTING RATE OF 77 PERCENT IS SHOWN FOR COMMERCIAL VICTIMS. SEE NCJ-25857 FOR THE FULL REPORT.
