ANALYSIS OF PRIOR DRUG ARREST HISTORY FOR SAMPLE OF PERSONS ARRESTED FOR MAJOR OFFENSES TO DETERMINE EXTENT SUCH OFFENDERS WERE INVOLVED WITH DRUG VIOLATIONS.
Abstract
PRIOR ARREST HISTORY FOR OTHER CRIMINAL ACTIVITY WAS ALSO ANALYZED FOR PERSONS ARRESTED IN 1971 AND 1972 FOR VIOLATIONS OF DRUG LAWS. ANALYSES AND TABLES ARE INCLUDED FOR EACH COUNTY FOR EACH YEAR. ADDITIONAL CHAPTERS DISCUSS THE LIMITATIONS OF THE RESEARCH AND REVIEW SOME OF THE SIMILAR STUDIES ADDRESSING THE QUESTION OF DRUG RELATED CRIME. THE FINDINGS SHOW THAT 85 PERCENT OF THE PERSONS ARRESTED FOR PART ONE OFFENSES (OF THE UNIFORM CRIME REPORTS) HAD NO PRIOR ARRESTS FOR NARCOTICS LAW VIOLATIONS. THE RESULTS ALSO SHOW THAT PART ONE OFFENDERS WITH PRIOR DRUG ARREST HISTORIES TENDED TO BE YOUNGER THAN THOSE WITHOUT PRIOR DRUG ARREST HISTORIES AND WERE MORE LIKELY TO BE ARRESTED FOR PROPERTY CRIMES SUCH AS BURGLARY, LARCENY, AND ROBBERY.
