Abstract
THE FIRST PART OF THE REPORT IS AN OVERVIEW OF THE DENVER CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON POLICE ACTIVITIES MOST RELATED TO REPORTING AND RECORDING OF CRIME DATA. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY A PRESENTATION OF SELECT DATA FROM THE 1970 CENSUS OF POPULATION FOR DENVER. SOME COMPARISONS BETWEEN DENVER AND CENTRAL CITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY ARE ALSO INCLUDED. THE THIRD SECTION IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR PARTS, EACH INCLUDING DEFINITIONS, METHODS, ANALYSES AND INTERPRETATION: RATES AND INCIDENTS OF VICTIMIZATION BY SELECTED DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS; RATES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF PERSONAL VICTIMIZATIONS; RATES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF HOUSEHOLD PROPERTY CRIME VICTIMIZATIONS; AND, RATES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMERCIAL BURGLARY AND ROBBERY VICTIMIZATIONS. THE FINAL SECTION CONSISTS OF AN ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LOCAL POLICE DATA AND SURVEY DATA. THE APPENDIX INCLUDES THE SAMPLE DESIGN, ESTIMATION PROCEDURES, RELIABILITY OF THE ESTIMATES, QUESTIONNAIRES, INTERVIEW PROCEDURES AND DATA COLLECTION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
