Abstract
THE AUTHOR PRESENTS A BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH, DESCRIPTION AND CRITICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE WORKS OR MAJOR THEORY OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING CRIMINOLOGISTS - WILLIAM HEALY, CLIFFORD R. SHAW AND HENRY D. MCKAY, EDWIN H. SUTHERLAND, AND SHELDON AND ELEANOR GLUECK. A DISCUSSION OF THE PUBLICATIONS OF EACH CRIMINOLOGIST IS PRESENTED. THE WORKS OF EACH ARE THEN ANALYZED IN TERMS OF CORE CONCEPTS OF CRIMINOLOGY, SUCH AS CONCEPTION OF CAUSATION (INCLUDING SOCIAL CLASS AND ECONOMIC CAUSATION), CONCEPTION OF CRIME, CONCEPTION OF THE OFFENDER, AND CONCEPTION OF CONTROL.
