BOOK REVIEW OF A NEW WORK ON THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF COURTHOUSES AND OTHER PHYSICAL FACILITIES FOR THE JUDICIAL PROCESS.
Abstract
A JOINT COMMITTEE OF THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION AND THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS SPONSORED THE RESEARCH WHICH RESULTED IN THIS BOOK. A SUMMARY OF THE MAJOR IDEAS DEVELOPED BY THE BOOK IS PRESENTED, AS WELL AS A CHAPTER EXCERPT. EXCEPT FOR CERTAIN ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS - HEATING, VENTILATING, AIR- CONDITIONING, LIGHTING, AND ACOUSTICS - THE BOOK AVOIDS RIGID DESIGN FORMULAS. BROAD PRINCIPLES ARE STATED SO THAT FUNCTIONAL, CREATIVE SOLUTIONS CAN BE DEVELOPED BY THE ARCHITECT AND HIS JUDICIAL CLIENT TO MEET THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OF SPECIFIC COURTS. FOR THE TEXT OF THE AMERICAN COURTHOUSE - PLANNING AND DESIGN FOR THE JUDICIAL PROCESS, SEE NCJ-009076.
