A FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A CAREER DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE (NM) POLICE DEPARTMENT WHICH SERVES A POPULATION OF 244,000 RESIDING ON 1,169 SQUARE MILES WITH 647 PERSONNEL (486 SWORN).
Abstract
THIS REPORT IS DATED DECEMBER 30, 1975. THE AUTHOR, WHO IS ADMITTEDLY BIASED IN FAVOR OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT SYSTEMS, RECOMMENDS THAT SUCH A SYSTEM BE INSTITUTED BY THE ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT. HE FURTHER RECOMMENDS THAT THE DEPARTMENT SET UP A CAREER DEVELOPMENT UNIT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RECRUITMENT, SELECTION, TRAINING AND EDUCATION, CAREER PLANNING, COUNSELING, PERFORMANCE EVALUATION, AND ADVANCEMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES. AN OPERATIONAL DESIGN FOR THE SYSTEM THAT TAKES POLICE OFFICERS, POLICE MANAGERS, AND CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES INTO ACCOUNT IS BRIEFLY DESCRIBED.
