This article describes new technology for teaching interview and interrogation techniques.
Abstract
Because the most critical elements for successful interviews and interrogations include strong interpersonal and observational skills, it is increasingly important to find teaching methods that are effective with a generation that is most comfortable interacting with the world through a computer screen. SIMmersion LLC is a software development company that has produced the most advanced simulation ever developed for training law enforcement, security, and intelligence community professionals on assessing veracity and employing effective interview techniques. The simulation provides a scenario and a suspect. Challenges for the trainee include building rapport and asking appropriate questions. The session ends with a score, creating a game-like quality. Repeated use of the simulation exposes the trainee to different personalities, motivations, and levels of veracity. The simulation includes 4 hours of e-learning content. Reaction to this recently released software has been positive, but should be used in conjunction with other resources.
