Abstract
Highlights from this report on projected adult correctional populations for Texas prisons include the following: by December 2004, total prison capacity was calculated to be 154,702 beds, with capacity increasing to 151,676 for 2004-05, 154,720 for 2006-07, and 161,810 for 2008-09; and the active parole supervision population is expected to increase from 77,336 in 2005 to 87,068 in 2010, while the felony direct community supervision population is expected to decrease, from 156,247 in 2005 to 151,463 in 2010. Highlights from this report on the projected juvenile correctional populations for Texas juvenile institutions include the following: Texas Youth Commission (TYC) residential populations are projected to be 4,971 for 2004-05, 5,119 for 2006-07, 5,276 for 2008-09, and 5,357 for the end of fiscal year 2010; and the number of juveniles receiving 1 of 3 types of supervision (adjudicated probation, deferred prosecution, conditional release) is expected to increase from 41,450 in 2005 to 44,389 in 2010. This report from the State of Texas Legislative Budget Board presents information on adult and juvenile correctional populations for fiscal years 2005 through 2010. Data for the report were obtained from the Texas Youth Commission and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The information contained in the report is used by various State agencies for developing their legislative budget requests. Tables, figures, and appendixes
