Results of a study of the impact of personality factors on delinquent behavior are discussed.
Abstract
Two hundred urban-based male adolescents, ages 13-15 years, were administered the Juvenile Delinquency Inventory, Eysenck Personality Inventory, Taylor's Manifest Anxiety Scale and Moster's Guilt Inventory to examine the impact of personality factors on delinquent behavior. The findings reveal that adolescents with high delinquent behavior are more neurotic, extraverted, anxious, and suffer more from guilt feelings than those with low delinquent behavior. Further, delinquent behavior tends to bear significant positive relationships with neuroses, extraversion, anxiety, and hostility and moral dimensions of guilt. The author recommends further examination of adolescents exhibiting high delinquency behavior to determine the correlation of high delinquency behavior and certain clinical problems.
