Abstract

This podcast series consists of four episodes that explore how stigma influences peer recovery support services (PRSS) programming, with examples highlighting the impacts of stigma surrounding substance use disorders, race/ethnicity, and sexual and gender minorities, and how affected populations have received and experienced treatment in the past. The podcast discusses the challenges regarding access to care, how stigma prevents people from seeking help, and the challenges of effective PRSS program implementation. The four episodes feature discussions with practitioners from around the United States who have been able to effectively counter the negative impacts of stigma, through direct and intentional implementation of culturally responsive PRSS programming.
