This manual was written for facilitators who wish to deliver training in the area of family violence, particularly, to deliver individual and group counseling services to young people who have been exposed to violence in the home.
Abstract
The manual contains three modules: (1) overview of family violence--history of family violence, defining abuse and control, why abuse happens, and effects of abuse on women; (2) violence detection and intervention strategies--adolescents at risk and professional roles and responsibilities; and (3) application of intervention strategies--skills development. The manual permits ease of implementation by individuals in a variety of settings, but it is recommended that facilitators have a certain amount of relevant experience and training before delivering the training workshop. The workshop is appropriate for all professionals providing direct services to children and youth. Appendixes contain facilitator notes, exercises, overheads, and handouts.
