DOCUMENTATION OF TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE RENDERED TO THE MAGISTRATES DIVISION OF THE COURT TO ASSESS THE FEASIBILITY OF USING ELECTRONIC RECORDING EQUIPMENT IN IDAHO'S FOURTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT.
Abstract
IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE PROJECT GOALS, AN ONSITE VISIT WAS MADE OF THE ADA COUNTY MAGISTRATES' COURTROOMS, WHICH WERE EXAMINED FOR ACOUSTICAL QUALITIES AND EQUIPMENT PLACEMENT. EXISTING RECORDING EQUIPMENT WAS DOCUMENTED AND TESTED; DISTRICT JUDGES, MAGISTRATES, AND COURT PERSONNEL WERE INTERVIEWED; AND RECORDING EQUIPMENT VENDORS WERE CONTACTED. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT PRESENT METHODS OF COURT TRANSCRIPTION AND RECORDING ARE INCAPABLE OF PROVIDING PROMPT AND RELIABLE RECORDS OF PROCEEDINGS, AND THAT AN ALTERNATE METHOD SHOULD BE PROVIDED. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THIS METHOD ARE MADE IN FOUR AREAS: EQUIPMENT, OPERATIONS, ACOUSTICS, AND TAPE STORAGE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)...KAP
